Property Details
Property ID: Free Breeze
The site comprises two plots:
Parcel Numbers 40 and 41 in Block 12/03 of the Beachettes Registration Section.
Parcel Numbers 40 and 41 in Block 12/03 of the Beachettes Registration Section.
Plot 40 has an area of 0.35 acre and
Plot 41 has an area of 0.45 acre - and has the house on it.
The property has two self contained apartments. Upstairs has a master bedroom with a king size double bed; a smaller room with a standard double bed, and a third bedroom/ dressing room with a single bed. This third room is partitioned off the main bedroom and the partition can be removed to make one larger space in the main bedroom. There is a kitchen area and an inside dining/lounge area. The showers room is accessed from between the two main bedrooms.
The apartment is bordered on two sides by a veranda overlooking the wooded area, which we were told was part of fruit orchard for an old arrowroot factory opposite. This also looks down to the ocean with views of Redonda and further away, Nevis.
To the rear of the upstairs is a covered dining area.
Down some steps and a ramped walkway lead to a one bedrooms apartment, with its own landing area and a water tub to relax in on hot days. The apartment has its own lounge, kitchen and shower room. This can be let as a separate unit, or used by visiting family and friends.
Access to the building is from a large parking area off St Julian Drive, just before you reach the end of the Drive. There is space to park and turn private cars off the road.
The property was designed and built by David Payne, a well renowned local builder and has been angled to find the cooling breezes as they come over the property. Although it is a mixture of concrete and wood construction, it has been cleverly designed to fit in with the landscape and survived hurricane Hugo with little or no damage. Hurricane screens are stored on site, but rarely used.
The maintained garden (yard) is fenced off, and contains lime trees, bitter orange, sugar apple, coconut trees, a pear tree, mango trees, five finger fruit and soursop as well as a breadfruit tree and several banana plants. The shade provided is very welcome during the hotter summer days.
This is a quieter area off Woodlands Beach Road, but if you feel like a walk, the sandy beach itself is only a few minutes away. The beach attracts nesting turtles at the right time of year, and at other times can be nice to cool off in the sea (but watch out the waves can be deceptive).
